Vintage Patent Plaques ~ Monopoly Game

$55.00

Monopoly can be traced back to "The Landlord's Game," created by Elizabeth Magie in 1903. This game was designed to illustrate the economic principles of Henry George, particularly his ideas about land taxation. In the 1930s, Charles Darrow refined and commercialized the game, naming it "Monopoly" and introducing some of its now-iconic elements. Darrow initially hand-made sets and sold them locally in Philadelphia. Parker Brothers bought the rights to Monopoly in 1935 and began mass-producing it. It swiftly became a best-seller, especially as a diversion during the Great Depression.
